NOVA Scribes for Tuesday, June 29 - Northwest Coast Indigenous Art

This Tuesday, June 29, 2021 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM EDT, NOVA Scribes is pleased to host Jamie Sterritt, a member of the Gitxsan nation from the Skeena River area of northern British Columbia, Canada. In this hands-on workshop, Jamie will walk through his process of designing and illustrating traditional northwest coast indigenous art.

Jamie will share his knowledge to give you the cultural awareness, appreciation and key structures of this art. Thick form lines, shapes, graceful flowing layout, balance-filled with negative space come together to create abstract and illustrative animals, mythical beings and humans.

Have your preferred medium ready, whether that’s ink and paper or digital. And be ready to draw!

Jamie’s work is based on the traditional northwest coast design and is true to Gitxsan art. He acquired his interest in the art from his late father and uncles, who are accomplished artists and craftsmen in their own right. Jamie is a member of the Lax Gibuu (Wolf clan). His Gitxsan name is Wii Nagim Tts'uwingat.
